Grave of the Fireflies, Central Park Media, 1988 is a perfect companion to The Fog of War. The video is a very, very sad anime tale of two children orphaned by the Allied bombing of Japan. The story illuminates an often ignored view of war, of young innocents lost in the violent chaos. I'm sure it also contains cultural aspects of the Japanese people that I, as an American. failed to notice. The video does not address the aggressive brutality the Japanese directed toward the rest of Southeast Asia and America, nor does it address the necessity of bombing the cities of Japan as part of an effort to quickly end the war and to minimize Allied casualties. Grave of the Fireflies is not a unique story; there are real children enacting similar roles today.
